The Real Deal

Blue Girl directed me to a very interesting story about Rush Limbaugh, who called veterans opposed to the war phony soldiers. Of course, this is the same Rush Limbaugh who threw a fit about the Moveon.org Petraeus ad, calling it "contemptible" and "indecent." Apparently anyone in the military is above criticism as long as they agree with Rush's brave belief that we should be in Iraq "as long as it takes." And I use the term 'we' loosely, as I believe the closest Rush has ever gotten to combat was watching We Were Soldiers with surround sound.

When I was a kid I watched Rush with my dad every morning when he was still on TV and always found him pretty funny and clever. Over the years I didn't have a very concrete opinion about him, I just knew him as the kooky conservative radio host who defended Bush at every turn (and hey, so did I). What did Rush and I have to lose when the war in Iraq started in 2003? I didn't have any family in the military, and all my friends were too young to even enlist. Why not go kick the shit out of a country, as long as someone else was doing it?

This was the last time Rush and I would agree on the war, so here's my opinion of you, Rush: you're as smart, selfless and courageous as I was as a 17 year old high school senior.

You make a good point that people who joined the military during the war knew they were going and shouldn't be against it. As I've seen since I joined in 2004, everyone in the military is gung ho to a certain extent, at least in the beginning of their career. I was part of a large group of new guys who got to a unit that just got back from a year long deployment. After our hazing sessions became less and less frequent in the following months, we listened to the stories all of them were telling, of vicious firefights and rescue missions. We all wanted to do our part, we all wanted to get some too. We were going to see what it was like to take a life. Too bad Rush missed his chance to do so, or maybe he'd be singing a different tune. In 1992, ABC newsman Jeff Greenfield posed a question to Rush, asking if he had ever served in the military during the Vietnam War. Here is what Rush had to say:

I had student deferments in college, and upon taking a physical, was discovered to have a physical- uh, by virtue of what the military says, I didn't even know it existed- a physical deferment and then the lottery system came along, where they chose your lost by birth date, and mine was high. And I did not want to go, just as Governor Clinton didn't.

As a phony civilian hoping to be a phony soldier, I tried to enlist in the military after I graduated high school in 2003. In 2002 I had a Nissen fundoplication operation to repair a hiatal hernia caused by severe acid reflux, preventing esophageal cancer later in life. I was immediately flagged on my attempt to enlist because of this surgery, as there was a chance that a physically stressful job such as Army infantry would complicate it. I had to be cleared by the surgeon general before entering the service. As the war kept on, so did I. I waited for a little over a year to get my results back: I would finally be able to join despite the surgery I had two years prior. As Rush found after dropping out of his first year of college at Southeast Missouri State University in 1969-1970, he found himself on draft status. Nothing that a claim of an old football injury or a boil on the ass can take care of, though! The medical deferment he was referring to was a pilonidal cyst, which apparently is a clump of severely ingrown hairs. That barred him from enlistment, and I'm sure he was ecstatic. After all, there was a war on. Here's a first hand account of the surgery that was done to correct it. She claims that in eight weeks, it was perfectly healed. Rush is willing to sacrifice the lives of Americans in Iraq but not his own ass (literally) in a simple surgery. I waited a year to get in, and he didn't try. Boy, do I really give an effort at being a phony soldier!

Speaking of phony soldiers, I wanted to show Rush a few that I know:

Phonies

This was taken on a rooftop during a firefight on March 24 in Baqubah. One guy lost a leg up to his knee and another lost a foot in an IED blast that day. Talk about sacrifices! Out of seven Americans on that rooftop, one is going to reenlist! The rest decided to get out to avoid going to Iraq again, despite what Mike from Olympia, Washington said on your show about what real soldiers say, like "they want to be over in Iraq. They understand their sacrifice, and they're willing to sacrifice for their country." All I see is a bunch of phonies!

Phony!

This is Matt tugging on a buried wire connected to a massive IED underneath the road. In Baqubah they were so prevalent that the explosive ordnance disposal dudes couldn't take care of them all in the city, so we started finding them and blowing them up ourselves. Matt just finished his second tour, in which he was deployed a total of 27 months. This coward that followed wires to huge bombs in the road is getting out in a few months. And that's a good thing, as this military could use a lot less phony soldiers.

Phony!

Here's Bill, digging up a grave containing a woman with her two daughters in a field in Baqubah. They were executed by gunshot and buried in the same hole. We took turns digging as the brave men of the Iraqi Army watched and joked. Bill also served 27 months in combat and like Matt, will be getting out of the Army in a couple months. Good riddance, phony!

PHONY!

I'm not above self-criticism. This is me on the last patrol we did in Old Baqubah on August 20. Like a coward I stayed in Iraq only fifteen months. We heard rumors that the 1920s might ambush us on our last patrol. Too bad they didn't, or they would've sent a lot of phonies home in body bags!

Get your ass back to Iraq phonies!

This picture makes me sick to my stomach. I photographed a bunch of cut-and-runners boarding a plane during a pit stop in Ireland on our way back to the states on September 12. Hello, don't they know there's a war going on? These phonies left Iraq before the job was done! Seriously, we need soldiers who want to be in Iraq for as long as it takes.

And finally:

This is Chevy in Baghdad. Brian Chevalier was going to reenlist but decided against it before he was killed on March 14 during our first mission in Baqubah. His phony life was celebrated in a phony memorial where everyone who knew him cried phony tears. A phony American flag draped over his phony coffin when his body came home. It was presented to his phony mother and phony daughter.

I would be in awe if I ever met a real life soldier, and not a phony one like Bill, Matt or Brian Chevalier. Thank you, Rush Limbaugh, for telling me the difference. I hope your ass is ok.

AH

Two out of the three lead all Presidents in getting the most pussy other than their wife's after they got married. Can you guess which ones? The ones that Hollywood most adore!

If WJC and JFK are so smart, why did they marry those skanks??? At least JEC had the courtesy of taking a Playboy into the bathroom with him after he got into the White House by accident.

It all boils down to:

Rush kicked the shit out of every liberal radio show that ever came along. The left can't handle that! "We're liberals, it's our birthright to tell everyone what to do!" Scare America went bankrupt! Randi Rhodes is the meanest bitch in the entire media! Where Ann Coulter went to school, Randi graduated with honors!

Get a clue, assholes. Nobody wants to listen to your horseshit (except yourselves, in one massive circle-jerk). Now the crazy left wants to stop talk radio, starting with Rush. It ain't gonna work, meatballs, you don't have the clout. Just look at the ratings!

Call Mr. Limbaugh what he is: a pretend politician from the conservative land of make believe.

now a truth about bush

Instead of breaking up the fight, he tries to soothe his low self-esteem by dividing people. When one group tires and can’t fight anymore, he finds some other play group to divide and he smiles as they assuage his bruised ego.

I see a pattern. George encourages people to fight for his pleasure, make bets of political capital on the outcome, and then euthanizes them when he gets bored.

Now that I see it, it’s all clear. George is the rush limbaugh of politics.

I see that the author and commenters fell hook line and sinker for Media Matter's misrepresentation of the facts.

Now that you've had the chance to come to your senses, do you realize that Rush was only speaking of non-soldiers who claim to be real soldiers? Or are you clinging to what you want to believe, which is that Rush thinks anti-war troops are not soldiers?

It's pretty hard to believe, given Rush's track record, but if you try hard enough you could probably still do it. But don't listen to/read the transcript, or it will be much more difficult for you to do so.

The government has shut down many military blogs because the writers are unable to see the consequence of their writings. You are now the spokesperson for the Anti-War movement and an icon for all of the nuts in the blog-o-sphere. all because you reported on a story that was phony. WWII there was a saying, "Loose Lips Sink Ships." Well, today loose lips do more than that. They embolden the enemy, used as propaganda, weaken morale of citizens and give away details. Rush was referring to a story of a guy who didn't even make it out of boot camp and claimed he was an Army Ranger who received purple hearts and witnessed atrocities in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was then a tool for the media both at home and overseas for our enemies to see. All of which was phony! I suggest you read http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2007/09/30/group-behind-smear-campaigns-against-limbaugh-o-reilly and also sign up for Rush Adopt a Solider Program so you can become more informed.

Thanks Rich, but I don't need to be adopted by Rush. I'm already a son of a mother and father who know what 'support the troops really means: making sure we have the best equipment, the best assests and are only used in times of dire situations (I'm pretty sure Iraq wasn't staging an invasion of America in 2003, what do you think?). Rush and people like him think war is heroic and sexy. It must be nice to love something so distant. And yeah, I weaken the morale of citizens. People who react like you are in the minority. I get plenty of emails from fellow soldiers and their families thanking me for simply describing what I've seen and done so they can see at least one perspective unfiltered by the media.

I've heard your tripe before. Shut up, do your job, fuck the dissenters, get in formation, don't think for yourself, it's too dangerous for the mission. What's funny is that at every level of my chain of command, they read my blog. It's a sign of the times. Rush can bite me, all the way from his private golf course and huge SUV covered in magnetic ribbons with meaningless slogans on them. If that's what you call support, I don't need it, and I don't want it.

I appreciate your polite post. However, the reference to the guy who falsely claimed to be a ranger came much later in the original transcript. When Rush Limbaugh claimed that he was referring to Jesse MacBeth, the clip he played omitted 1 minute and 35 seconds of the 1 minute and 50 second discussion that occurred between Limbaugh's original 'phony soldiers' comment and his reference to MacBeth."

If it was so clear he was referring to MacBeth (who is a phony soldier, not plural soldiers) why did Limbaugh need to edit the clip? And why did he claim it was the "entire transcript" when it wasn't?

When the guy asked Rush "how long do you think we should be there?" and repeated this several times, Rush screamed "as long as it takes!!, as long as it takes!!" The clip he shows is a call he took right after he cut the other call off.

The fact that several posters (the dittohead crowd) have continued to denigrate the service of John Kerry, even when all the lies were discredited is as best an indication as there is, that those soldiers who dare to criticize a war policy will have their service dragged through the mud. In the political realm, John Kerry still is Phony Soldier #1, because, you have to understand, it is inconceivable to the Right Wing that he could have served honorably AND held a different opinion on Vietnam than they did. They can't handle the truth, so they prefer the lies.

I'm waiting for Rush to clear up this definition of "phony soldierS" (note: plural) by 1) giving at least one more example of "phony" soldierS who have "come out of the blue to talk to the media" other than one Jesse MacBeth and/or 2) saying he doesn't think ANY of those who have served in our very real military are phony soldiers, including those who are against this war in Iraq. And I think he should give concrete examples of those non-phony soldiers, people like John Murtha and Jon Soltz, maybe even Pat Tillman, Omar Mora and Yance Tell Gray for instance. He should say their names and then say, "You, sirs, are not phony." That would be easy for someone like Rush to do, right? I mean, he supports ALL our troops, right, Dittoheads?

Certain Americans seem incapable of understanding how ridiculous Rush Limbaugh sounded when he asserted that service members who advocate U.S. withdrawal from Iraq are "phony soldiers." They never thought to ask: "How could he possibly know? He's never served in the US military."

Certain Americans remind me of the "proles" (ditto heads) described by George Orwell in his novel, 1984. "Left to themselves, like cattle turned loose upon the plains of Argentina, they reverted to a style of life that appeared natural to them, a sort of ancestral pattern. They were born, they grew up in the gutters, they went to work at twelve, they passed through a brief blossoming-period of beauty and sexual desire, they married at twenty, they were middle-aged at thirty, they died, for the most part, at sixty. Heavy physical work, the care of home and children, petty quarrels with neighbors, films, football, beer, and, above all, gambling, filled up the horizon of minds. To keep them in control was not difficult. A few agents of the Thought Police moved always among them, spreading false rumors and marking down and eliminating the few individuals who were judged capable of becoming dangerous…All that was required of them was a primitive patriotism which could be appealed to whenever it was necessary…" Consequently, "The larger evils invariably escaped their notice." And, "as the Party slogan put it: 'Proles and animals are free.'" Walter C. Uhler

Rush describes his Vietnam non-experience:

I had student deferments in college, and upon taking a physical, was discovered to have a physical- uh, by virtue of what the military says, I didn't even know it existed- a physical deferment and then the lottery system came along, where they chose your lost by birth date, and mine was high.

He, quote, "didn't even know it existed"?

Here's what actually happened, backed up by the records. Limbaugh was not diagnosed by a military medical doctor. He instead saw his own private civilian physician, who diagnosed the cyst and submitted an affadavit to the draft board.

Under those circumstances, how could it be possible for Limbaugh to have not known that his condition existed? He makes it sound as though it was a surprise to him, which had been discovered during the military draft physical, a physical he never took.

Ah! It must have been "phony". That's it.

Oh, and while I think that Limbaugh is a cowardly blowhard and worthless addict, and that George W. Bush is a disgrace to the office which was twice stolen on his behalf, I must in the interests of accuracy note that the purported Presidential IQ study quoted upthread is an urban legend, and that the "Institute" in question does not in fact exist. Someone needs to learn to use a search engine before they post.

For what it's worth, Alan Greenspan's memoirs indicate that the only two Presidents under whom he served, who impressed him intellectually, were Bill Clinton and Richard Nixon.

And Nixon, for all of his other faults, at least knew when it was time to progressively disengage from a futile foreign war.

You discredit yourself. You're merely spewing what the dangerous, Soros-backed Media Matters is spinning. It can only reinforce the stereotype of anti-war advocates as little more than liars themselves. True dissent cannot be based on lies or any shading of truth and unfortunately you crossed that line, sir.

I listened to the audioclip and it's very clear Rush was speaking directly about "soldiers" like Jesse Macbeth who lied about their service in Iraq. There have been more than the likes of Jesse Macbeth who has been embraced by our cause and who turned out to be complete frauds. Rush was also speaking to a lesser degree about soldiers actually serving in a war zone like the recent Private Beauchamp who then outright lie about the "atrocities" that they've supposedly seen. In that case the New Republic when gaga and the stories were carried far and wide by radical left-wing sites even after he was proven to be a fraud himself - not his service but his lying comments about what he supposedly witnessed in Iraq. It's things like what he's done and what your doing and the airheads who blindly agree with you here that discredits the anti-war movement.

As someone who really does suupport the troops I find it interesting that you also don't get upset about these kind of faux "soldiers" involving themselves in Stolen Valor type activities, but rather you decide to bash Rush who, God knows, has many faults of his own. Apparently you aren't able to divine who your real enemies are.

Reading your twisted posting of Limbaugh's comments is like listening to master propagandists like Goebbels. It's frightening to me that there are people like you in the anti-war movement who are willing to grab onto any lie which you think advances our cause.

There's far too much about Limbaugh to be criticized without you sullying yourself with this silly kerfuffle based on well-crafted lies of the far-left Media Matters. Why you decided to fight this battle with little more than a transparently out-of-context quote speaks more about your character than it does the gasbag Limbaughs - which is really sad. Surely those like you sworn to honor, duty and integrity can do better than that.

BTW, as this faux story dies another ignoble death as anti-war spinners are hoisted upon their on petard of lies, more and more the house of cards built by the more radical leftists in our anti-war movement is making us look like mind-numbed sheeple, not those who support the war against radical Islamists. If this kind of lying crap keeps up, I in good conscience can no longer associate myself with an anti-war movement willing to resort to lies and half-truths in order to destroy the political opposition. I will not put party or radical leftist-ideology before my country.

With the surge working in Iraq (and many on our side of the aisle seem willing to stick their heads in the sand once again on this one) it's really making us look bad - always negative, always bashing Bush and willing to latch on to convenient lies.

I'm getting tired of defending our rather hollow "I support the troops" when there are partisan morons on our side of the aisle who hate Bush, hate the mission, hate any success and vote for politicians who cut military spending or the defense budget during times of peace and put our soldiers at risk when a shooting war comes along. Conservatives can't always be wrong and progressive/liberal/socialists always be right.

And when we lower ourselves to the level of advancing even more "chickenhawk" talk we open ourselves up to the criticism that with all our high-minded talk about democracy and freedom for all, how many of us here have ever been a human shield in a war zone even though there is no age limit or physical to pass to be one? I dare say not a single one of us have ever put our high-minded rhetoric into actual practice unless one was a soldier serving as either a peacemaker or a peacekeeper in the service of this country. I'm being shamed more and more by the sacrifice American soldiers are making even in a mission I might not agree with. I mean if we really do live in a fascist country then why are we content to fatten ourselves on all the rights and opportunities provided by what some on our side call an "evil military industrial complex" while sitting in our barcoloungers are banging anonymously on our keyboards? We're looking more and more like a bunch of ungrateful, spoilt brats way too steeped in our partisan hatreds that invariably demonize doofus gasbags like Rush instead of the real bad guys like Osama bin Laden and the rest of the radical Islamists.

Already the successes in Iraq and Afghanistan is starting to make us look really bad. So what's our response, rathet up the hateful rhetoric and lies even more? I'm about to walk away from the radical, mindless haters I'm seeing posting here and I'm also growing weary of having our anti-war rhetoric being echoed by the likes of bin Laden and other al Qaeda leaders because it really does serve their propaganda machine. When our side ends up hating Rush Limbaugh more than we do Osama bin Laden, there's something increasingly wrong with our side of the aisle.

Limbaugh denounced as "contemptible" and "indecent" MoveOn.org's much-discussed advertisement -- titled "General Petraeus or General Betray Us?" -- critical of Gen. David Petraeus, but has repeatedly attacked the patriotism of those with whom he disagrees. For instance, on the January 25 broadcast of his radio show, he told his audience that he had a new name for Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE), a Vietnam veteran: "Senator Betrayus."

Great Blog.
As you've probably noticed you've garnered a lot of attention being a 'phony soldier' and all. I've seen a lot of comments referring to how Media Matters took Lord Fat Ass' comments out of context. Which following his attack on Rep. Murtha really make that particular point fairly moot. Fact of the matter is Rush is a coward; and people that stand by him are either unintelligent, misinformed or utterly deluded (or just like laughing at the bizzarro world he is pandering).
But here it is several years later, and BushCo's misadventures in Iraq have cost a lot of people, especially for you boots on the ground and I pray everyday you guys make it outta there in one piece, regardless of politics.
I just have one question and it's one that no one here in the states has ever 'truly' answered, one I was hoping you could shed a little light on for the rest of us in simple terms, maybe even ask the guy next to you about. Now aside from day to day 'missions' and the overall goal of standing with your brother in arms: What is America's mission in Iraq? What do they tell you it is?
What is 'victory'?
What is 'defeat'?
The goal posts have moved so many times not just for you guys and American's back home but also for Iraqi's.
Conservatives and republicans like to talk about 'oh if we pull out it means defeat' or 'we can't leave until there is victory' or 'our job is not complete'.
Forget the fact that every single rationale that got America here in the first place was an out right lie sold to our Republican dominated Congress (Congress has the Authority to Declare War not the Prez, it's in the Constitution) by the administration and the "liberal" media. (Which, by the way, no one has been held accountable for, as of yet)(notice I said 'liberal' media cause they're so damn...liberal... what with their factual reporting and all....yeah right)

Let's take a look at the list and see where we stand
1. Weapons of Mass Distraction, I mean Destruction----OUTRIGHT LIE AND COMPLETE FALSEHOOD
2. Iraq and Al Qaeda were the bestest buddies ever ---CHENEY SMOKING CRACK YET AGAIN
3. Depose a cruel dictator-----DEAD (What about Mr. Kim Jong-Il??)
4. Free the Iraqi People---WELL IF YOUR DEAD YOUR FREE OR YOUR LIVING IN SYRIA
5. Nation Building, As They Stand up We Stand Down or something like that----

So for you guys; What's the 'Mission' this week and how are you to delivery 'Victory' to the GOP?
And how much 'progress' is being made?

I would love to know what you guys think not the generals or the anal-ysts or the Gay Old Party or the 'liberal' media (Faux News) ....just you guys, grunts on the ground. What do you think?
Because from reading this post I can see that you'll tell it to us straight and really you have a right to say what you think and what the truth is......you've more than earned it.

Come home safe, all of you.

As a former AF unit commander, I cannot help but be in awe of the people who raise their right hand and put on the uniform, despite the thousands of other things they could be doing with their lives.
Nothing but respect for what the USA/USMC do everyday in the AOR.
It sux to defend what Limbaugh & others say in the name of free speech, but it's what we swore to do. I ignore him.
It's about the people in our unit and getting through the mission alive.

Here's Rush's sociological evaluation of what really happened at Abu Ghraib, as quoted in a piece in The New Republic on Limbaughism:

"This is no different than what happens at the Skull and Bones initiation, and we're going to ruin people's lives over it, and we're going to hamper our military effort, and then we are going to really hammer them because they had a good time. You know, these people are being fired at every day. I'm talking about people having a good time, these people, you ever heard of emotional release? You [ever] heard of need to blow some steam off?" rush sphincter of steely resolve limbaugh

At the risk of you believing I do not appreciate your service, I submit the following comments. You need to listen to Rush, read his transcript, and watch the ABC Brian Ross segment that Rush was referring to. The segment, by the way, that exposes Jesse MacBeth for the contemptable pissant he is. To not retract your disdain for Rush and the continued lie that he was equating liberal soldiers with phony soldiers is is disgusting.

Those of us who believe that the GWOT is necessary and we should persevere, have never believed that the US Military is monolithic in its party affiliation. You dishonor us Amercians who support all the military, not just the Republican members of these institutions. It worries me that so many believe that Rush would besmirch anyone in the military. I guess it is a sign that you and the posters do not know Rush at all. If you knew him (not just the context of his comments-though that would be a good start), you would not, in good conscience, believe the crap posted by Media Matters and repeated by Harry Reid. Your post is based on a premise that is a left-wing nutbag lie.

Be safe out there.

Sincerely,
A partriotic Amercian that supports your mission wholeheartedly

If you jump on the media bandwagon and dump on Rush, on this matter concerning Jesse MacBeth who DID NOT serve as an Army Ranger - who LIED about atrocities he never saw - then you're just part of the ignorant masses who could well make up a mob.

You're just launching on your soapbox and you probably voted for Kerry who also LIED about war atrocities HE never saw in Vietnam!"

I love this one the most. Listen to Fox News much, Mark? Is it at all possible that you listen to a bunch of neocon junkies, I mean, Rush, who are telling you what THEY want you to HEAR?

I've never been to war. I've never served my country, not that way.

And I am mystified, dumbfounded, awe-struck by what you guys do every single working day. Unbelievable risks punctuating the monotony of down time, far from home.

What you do is sacred. And it has always seemed to me that if we ask you to go to war, ever, that our sacred obligation to you is never to risk your young lives unless it is absolutely necessary and other routes have been exhausted. And it's our obligation to make sure you have the equipment you say you need, and all the personal armoring we can send. And to bring you home quickly, honor our dead deeply, and spend the rest of our lives making sure our vets have every advantage we can give them for the rest of their lives, along with the best medical care for whatever they need, for the rest of their lives and at our expense. That's what taxes are for.

Alex, this post is just damned beautiful. I don't know what else to say, except that millions of people around the world can't wait to have you wonderful phonies home safe, and we're doing everything we can to speed that up.

ha ha phony soldier. i liked how you used other soldier's pictures (real soldiers, not fake ones like you) and pretended you were there. All I can say is you are so wrong, Rush was not saying that thing that you think he was saying. You listen too much to der fuhrer kos and that gay american david brock. Rush was TOTALLY saying something else and I know this to be true because that's what he said he meant... later, and the day after.

And david brock is a G.A.Y. and he says he used to be a republican, so how can you trust him now. He used to be different! And now he is gay, which is evil, and he wants to marry a horse! (unless he is also iranian, in which case we need to liberate him, conservatively of course)

I mean it was so obvious. And now it's sad to see soldiers (phony or otherwise, like real) be so conned by the liberals. you know how the world is so totally liberal right? rush is just speaking the truth, and I know this because he tells me it's true, and foxnews (teh best news if you ask me) confirms it for me later in the day. And everybody I trust says "rush is teh best, he is totally teh right. he did not mean that thing that people think they heard him say." Are you saying I can't trust brit hume? He is soooo moderate, and so it is you that is drinking the kool aid.

enjoy it. you should get lots of flavors, so you'll have something to entertain you in the mental hospital... where you belong.

Why don't you listen to the whole three hours of his show, with commercials and everything, and then you'll know the TRUTH. Then listen to the show the next day and the day after, and then you'll know he only called like one person (or four, or a hundred thousand) a phony.

Rush rules, phony soldiers drool!

I would fight that war over there, but I am too busy fighting the war over here, against the our other enemy, americans like you. so take that - POW!

get over yourself phony mcsoldier, stop believing your lying ears and start believing el rushbo! (and stay safe dood, please please stay safe, you rock man, get the fek out as soon as you can)

Interesting post, but misguided.
As a fellow combat veteran (70-83 USA, 83-91 ANG) I admire and thank you for you for your service. I wish you well in all you do. I hope with all my heart you never have to return to combat and that nobody else has to die in Iraq. But facts are what they are. You were given bad intel about the Rush comment. He referred to a single dirtbag that has been convicted of fraud (false claim of VA benefits worth $10k) thrown out of the Army, never finished Basic, and most certainly never saw combat. This reference was to a single guy, not the Army, not the military. The corrupted elements of media took his conversation out of context and turned into propaganda for the left, those who would sell you out and use your misfortune to thier advantage, Kerry, Reed, Murther. They have done it time and time again. Kerry has twice committed treason and has yet to be held accountable. Give some serious thought to who you give credence. I would be more concerned about those who would intentionally lie and deceive you, lead you down a road of falsehoods.
Like anyone that runs his mouth for a living, you have to sift through some of it. But for the most part Rush speaks the truth. He would never defame a real soldier. You need to go back and examine the facts son. Make the decision for yourself, do not listen to half-truth, and edited with self serving purpose double-talk, and most of all these damn blogs that rarely have the whole, if any truth in mind.
Like you I served. I never regret a day of it. In fact I miss it, miss my buddies, not the mess hall. I do not critisize those who did not, that would take a lifetime.

sweet posting, man! I was in the Army waaay too long, to include combat tours. When I was enlisting in the Army, I realized that you can get in if you really want (just like you did); people like [bum] Rush who found any way they could to get out of serving (but are of course, very gung ho these days) are just making excuses now that they're being called out for their cowardice. It's really a shame that the original poster was given the bad information about what Rush actually said. He was in fact speaking about one person specifically.

And what's worse is that a U.S. Senator picked it up and ran with the mis-characterization of what was actually said and spoke about it on the senate floor.

Not as bad, but still a shame are the amount of people that were influenced by the mis-information of the original poster.

There is a difference between a 'phony soldier' and a soldier who has an issue with government policy of any type. Everyone is entitled to express an opinion, but facts must be facts, not fantasies. The 'phony soldiers' thrive in a fantasy world. Witness the recent blogs by a soldier who claimed to be part of numerous gross atrocities and improprieties, and later was found to be a phony. Jesse MacBeth has already been mentioned. Both these characters made stuff up, and it was published in the Arab press. Numerous pretenders, usually claiming 'Ranger' or 'SEAL' or 'Special Forces' combat experience are now in prison for their lies. The Stolen Valor Act of 2005 is designed to punish these 'phony soldiers.' Look it up, and while you are at it, read BG Burkett's book 'Stolen Valor.' It is in your library.
My hat is off to all of you who serve. I respect your courage, sacrifice, and professionalism.

I hope everyone that's commented here realizes that Rush was talking about Jesse Macbeth.

That's what he claims today, sure.

I have read the original, unaltered, untrimmed transcript of Limbaugh's remarks, and it's quite clear that he was originally referring to serving soldiers who are unhappy with the course of the war effort (as well they should be).

I must ask: if Limbaugh's comments were specifically about Macbeth, why was it deemed necessary to remove the more than a minute and a half of discussion in between the offending comment and the time at which Macbeth's name was first invoked? And why did Limbaugh then later refer to this selectively edited version as, quote, "the entire transcript"?

No convincing explanation has been set forth.

As for me, my moment of clarity about Limbaugh came a couple of years ago when it was announced that he was losing his hearing. I said to my wife, "I hate Limbaugh, but I feel sorry for him regardless." As I would anyone who was having to go through such an experience.

It then later became clear that Limbaugh was losing his hearing because of his drug abuse. I had known at the time of his first diagnosis that Vicodin can cause hearing damage. Many junkies other than Limbaugh have been deafened by the stuff. What I hadn't known at the time was that Limbaugh was quite illegally doing eighty pills per day, and doctor shopping to feed his habit.

Given that this is a guy who once said that affluent white drug users from the suburbs need to be punished to the full extent of the law, my sympathies for him having gone deaf due to his own drug abuse abruptly evaporated. Especially when he then (instead of taking it like a man) hired as a defense attorney a gentleman named Roy Black to try to weasel him out of the charges.

Limbots should well remember Roy Black. He is the lawyer who years before had gotten one of the hated Kennedys acquitted on rape charges. I heard an earful from Rush listeners back then about how manipulative and evil such celebrity criminal defense specialists are. That hue and cry instantly vanished when Limbaugh retained the same counsel. Wonder why?

To all the poor poor deluded Rush Fans out there. And I quote:

"I was talking about a genuine phony soldier — and, by the way, Jesse MacBeth is not the only one. How about this guy Scott Thomas who was writing fraudulent, phony things in the New Republic about atrocities he saw that never happened? How about Jack Murtha blanketly accepting the notion that Marines in Haditha engaged in wanton murder of innocent children and civilians?"

Excuse me Lard Ass dip shit neocon fag munch but Rep. Murtha served in the Marines for 37 years and has seen more combat than the ENTIRE administration of the current white house (even the few hundred that have retired or are now in prison).
I support all of the troops out there but this misadventure in Iraq has gone on quite long enough. You people cant handle the truth. Your boy Dubya (you know the chimp with strings held by Cheney) did this for his rich buddies in the oil industry. PERIOD. PERIOD. PERIOD.
At this point just give up any argument otherwise because you should know that it is an exercise in futility.
So what, that makes me unpatriotic, unamerican; I say I am more American and honor our constitution more than every single member of the GOP (Except for Dr. Paul).
But in that same light, everyone, including Rush have their right to their opinion.
I could give a rats ass if the man lives, dies, implodes or becomes permanently lodged in OReilly's ass. Good riddance.
But, and this is for all the necon nazi shills out there: WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO SAY WHAT EVER THE FUCK WE LIKE ABOUT YOU BLOW HARD ASSTUNNELS.
Because at the end of the day if you people had REALLY cared about the truth and getting things 'right' we wouldn't be in this mess to begin with.
You should take that as a lesson then, either stand up 100% of the time when the 'facts' are in question or don't stand up at all. Now go read Wiki and help us with the Chimpeachment.

Just to clear up a point or two.
The point of my post was to get some of the selctively blind to open thier eyes and actually verify something instead of listening to slander and half truths. That is about anything and everything, not just this post. My reference to the subjet of Rush's comment was the little dirt bag Jesse Macbeth, and others like him.
Somehow stories like this one get spun by the trash in our society in a attempt to change fact to suit some twisted idiots idea how they want to dismember this country.
For dittohead:
Murther is a liar, he defamed and accused innocent Marines of Murder on national TV. Now he refuses to retract his comments after they were cleared of all charges. These good men had careers ruined, lives disruppted beyond what any one of us could or would find acceptable. His past deeds have been ecliped by current behavior, he no long deserves to call himeself Marine in my opinion

Kerry - Twice stood in front of the world and called our military people murderers, rapist, terrorists etc. I was in Viet Nam when he made the statement, it cost lives, lots of them, slowed the process of peace/withdrawl - gave th world the impression that our soldiers were out of control criminals.

Harry Reed - just a corrupt peice of white trash that spews bile for words about anything that Soros tells him too. What has Harry beside set his sons up as political lobbyists?

Thanks for your service to our country. Sorry that you feel that Rush was ripping any soldier/vet who is against the war. He wasn't. I feel bad that you have been duped by groups like Media Matters, politicians, and others, that Mr. Limbaugh said this of all who disagree. Go to his website and read all the transcripts regarding this. You'll find that Mr. Limbaugh is extremely supportive of the troops, even you real soldiers who disagree.

LOL. Some of the things I’ve been reading in some of your back posts crack me up, but some of the commenters in this thread are competing for laughs. Seems you’ve attracted damn near a whole company with ingrown ass hair for brains. The mighty Limbaugh warriors. No pill too large for them to swallow. They man up like that.

I may have resigned my commission a while back so I can’t order shit anymore. So I’m simply ‘suggesting’ you enjoy being back and being with family.

Have a drink to your buds who didn’t come back with you. Obviously can’t speak for them, but I strongly suspect to a man they’d be happy you returned safe from the tour and would have your back if ingrown-hair patriot warriors got in your face. Also they wouldn’t want your tears, only that you live well for them. Do them that honor.

Very good post!! Thank you very much for your service to our country. For all you Rush supporters out there mentioning that Rush didn't actually say what he said about all the soldiers who disagree with the Bush/Fringe right wing agenda and failed war policy as being phony soldiers, you should check out the entire audio clip or read the entire transcript in the context it was first presented. The only problem is you are probably checking out Rush's site or listening to his re-buttal on his show. Rush has already edited the actual audio recording and transcript down to present it out of the context it was originally said. He doesn't want his loyal followers to hear again what he said originally, because it doesn't fit his latest explanation of why he said what he said, and it doesn't solidify why we shouldn't believe our lying ears when we hear the entire clip in it's original context. If you guys hear his comments in context twice, you might actually know in your hearts what he said is so incredibly wrong. In fact, you might even develop your own opinion about the truth of the comment. That is Rush's worst nightmare.... listeners that develop a brain and begin not to mindlessly follow.

Reading is fundamental, and the dittoheads never mastered it. Amazing how, even at the end of the thread, after it's established that their pill-gobbling hero has attacked active duty soldiers and veterans who dare to disagree with him, they still persist in bringing up Jesse MacBeth.

If stupidity were painful, there wouldn't be a medication strong enough to help them.

Keep up the good work, Army of Dude.

You have it all wrong!! You demonstrate profound ignorance when you fall prey to everything the "left" in this country feeds you. I, like Rush, am humbled by your sacrifice and service. However there are those among us, who never stepped foot in the sands of Iraq, yet claim great service. THESE ARE THE PHONY SOLDIERS. Liars, cheaters, and bilkers of veterans money.

Since Rush Limbaugh was clearly talking about ACTUAL "Phony" Soldiers like Jesse MacBeth, who has admitted to falsifying his DD214 to steal veterans benefits, and other imposters of his ilk, as described by ABC news a few days earlier, this posting by a real soldier that has been given bad information (and probably intentionally) is all the more disheartening.

The actual transcript is all over the internet to discredit those that STILL hoping to spin this tripe.

The Senate (Soros) Democrats, and Media Matters have proven time, and again that it is they themselves who are willing to abuse our military for political gain.

Rush Limbough here...
How dare you call me a fake. I'm going to call up my good buddy George W. and we're going to vote to have your comments deemed unamerican. I'm thinking of going to Iraq and hanging out with some soldiers for a day or so just to prove I'm not a phony american. I am a fat ass, but I'm not phony. I love doing drugs while sitting on my phony boil.

George W and me are the only ones in the country who aren't phony by the way. George W. would love to go to Iraq with his 2 daughters and fight, but he's on vacation, so Iraq is going to have to wait till he gets back.

Petraeus or Be-tray-us... Why the Fuck not... Bush has done it for 2 terms now. My honest opinion... Bush is no better than Hitler... Put that in your republican crack pipe and smoke it!!!

I'm a former United States Marine (Viet Nam). To anyone who was actually listening to Rush's program there can be no misunderstanding of his intent. It was directly aimed at people who have claimed to have served in the military and/or claimed to have be in combat when, in fact they hadn't (Jesse Macbeth). These are the "phony soldiers". This is what you folks should be upset about...not Rush's misunderstood comments. I fully support Rush Limbaugh and so does everyone I come in contact with...especially vetrans. When I was younger I thought with my emotions rather than my brain. You will come to see the light when you are older.

Think for yourselves and quit following the left like a bunch of mindless sheep. If you're not careful you might get what you think you want and wind up living in a socialist state rather than a democracy.

Anonymous said...

Rush is not elected, so it doesn't matter what he says. It does matter what elected Democrats say: all of which is an attempt to undermine the soldiers and the war so they can get elected. And when that war finally turns a corner toward the better (and Democrats start looking bad), they try to torpedo it more with red herrings like Rush and Blackwater. "Just Anbar" my ass.

Great post! Thanks to you and all of you phonies out in the theater. Its a shame when well-heeled blowhards like Limbaugh and Swift Boaters want to divide up Americans fighting for their country. There's nothing phonier to me than 'patriots' calling servicemen and women liars when they regularly run free and loose with the truth themselves. Ideology over country has got to go.

Anonymous said...

Opinions are always getting in the way of facts. The "phony soldier" reference was to those who have pretended to do what you true soldiers are doing. Whether you agree with the war or not, this comment was about those who wish they had been soldiers and so try to pass themselves off as such. ABC News even did a story about these people a couple of days before the comment was made. They were called phony at that time also. At my age (56), I can remember guys who claimed to have been in Viet Nam for whatever reason - perhaps they thought it made them cool or they wanted some benefit. Phony soldiers are nothing new - they have been around for some time. This name in no way applies to, nor was it intended to apply to, anyone who actually served their country - regardless of their political tilt. I don't have a google account so I'm posting this as anonymous.

How ironic and moronic, are these Liberals that (even in the comments on this military blog) gleefully portray a highly decorated Four-Star General as a liar, while pretending with mock straight-faces that they support the military.

In reality the only thing they truly support is their own selfish, dogmatic thirst for power...through any and all means of deception.

How 'bout "Fake" ... as well as phony?

'Combat' Tom Harkin:

"While running for his Senate seat in 1984, and again while running for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1992, Harkin has faced criticism for claiming that he had flown combat missions over North Vietnam. In a 1979 round table discussion with other Congressional Veterans, Harkin said of his service as a Navy pilot: “One year was in Vietnam. I was flying F-4s and F-8s on combat air patrols and photo-reconnaissance support missions”. These comments were later published in a 1981 book by David Broder. After subsequent inquiries by Barry Goldwater and The Wall Street Journal, Harkin clarified that that he had been stationed in Japan and sometimes flew recently repaired aircraft on test missions over Vietnam. His service flying F-4s and F-8s was later, while he was stationed in Cuba."

How 'bout __________ (you fill in the blank)?

John "Johnny Four Months" F. Kerry:

"They told stories that at times they had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Ghengis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam in addition to the normal ravage of war and the normal and very particular ravaging which is done by the applied bombing power of this country."

All I can say to the radical right wing-nuts who posted their silly little Hitler-esque comments: finally the progressive and liberals and Christians in this country are standing up to you radical right wingers (O'Reilly and Limbaugh and Coultergeist and the little minions who believe and have the audacity to repeat their lies)-- Finally we have a fair minded group known as Media Matters, who point out the lies of the radical Republicans (BY REPORTING EXACTLY WHAT YOU RADICALS SAY, EXACTLY WORD FOR WORD)-- and the only defense that you radical righties have is to "doctor" what you said, or "doctor" the transcripts, and then say that Media Matters lied ( WHEN ALL THEY DID WAS REPORT WORD FOR WORD WHAT YOU SAID IN THE FIRST PLACE WITHOUT THE EDITING!! I feel sorry for you radical righties, but I know that as an American who supports our troops, but does not support this silly war -- I know that we can save our country by speaking out against you radical phony-Americans who call yourself RADICAL Republicans and who are trying to destroy this country we once called a democracy. you Radical righties -- all you do is "support this war" YOU HARDLY SUPPORT THE TROOPS AS EVIDENCED BY YOUR OWN COMMENTS AND BY THE WORDS AND ACTIONS OF YOUR LEADER BUSH AND ONE OF HIS LITTLE BITCHES: LIMBAUGH.

AND one more thing. you little small-minded radical righties crack me up. guess what? Soror has nothing to do with Media matters - he had never donated money to them not directly or indirectly - that is another lie that Bill O'Lielly voices -- and all the little minions hear it and believe it and repeat it. If i were Media Matters, I would sue Scary Bill -- oh wait he was sued once before for harrassment and "settled out of court" yet his diatribe is STILL on the air waves. once again radical righties!!! LISTEN UP! ALL MEDIA MATTERS DOES IS POST WORD FOR WORD, VER BATUM, WHAT THE RADICAL RIGHTIS ON FOX AND CLEAR CHANNEL AND ELSEWHERE SAY -- THEY REPORT IT WORD FOR WORD, AND DO NOT LEAVE OUT A WORD, NOT EVEN ONE SYLLABLE....SO GET REAL --- The fact of the matters is we finally have someone who tells us the lies the lying liers have to say and all you radicals can do is say oh i did not say that...let me doctor my transcript and tell all my little minions "what I really said or what i really meant to say".

He named a few names, and then he talked about something else for a total of one minute and 51 seconds...THEN he said: "of this just in...another phony soldier named Jesse MacBeth".....so when he first was talking about, and making his outrageous comments about phony soldiers he was talking about some of the brave men and women who speak out against the war. almost 2 minutes later he brings up Jesse MacBeth. are you radical righties not capable of understanding the truth? or do you just listent to Rush's and CLear Channels "edited" version of what Rush originally said. you might want to check out Mediamatters dot org, and their you can see the full, UNEDITED transcript of what Rush said and obviously what he meant --but wait, you radicals will just say oh no...little rush did not say that and then you will quote his EDITED version of the truth. what horrible people you are, you call yourself righteous, yet you, like Limbaugh are self-righteous ..and you are destroying this country with your lies.

First of all while I support your service greatly..My brother is in Baqubah as we speak with the infantry....But i must say that Rush was NOT insulting the troops.. word is that the Democrats will introduce a House resolution Monday condemning Rush Limbaugh for his remarks about phony soldiers.

Here is what this phony fiasco is really all about: It’s about the MoveOn.org Democrats trying to save face in the aftermath of the disastrous “General Betray Us” smear. They want their own moment of righteous (or rather, lefteous) indignation, their own empty proof that they really, really, really do support the troops. They want to shift attention away from MoveOn.org, its bully tactics, and its thug brethren at Media Matters. They are making a pathetic attempt to equate the “Betray Us” attack–which was deliberately timed for publication and maximum p.r. damage to our military command when the world was watching our top general in Iraq testifying in Congress–with a radio talk show host’s ruminations about anti-war soldiers who have faked their military records/history.
There is something called Winter Soldier Syndrome phenomenon.
Ever since John Kerry sat in front of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and accused American soldiers of wantonly razing villages “in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan,” the Left has embraced a small cadre of self-loathing soldiers and soldier wannabes willing to sell their deadened souls for the anti-war cause.

Think Jimmy Massey, the unhinged Marine who falsely accused his unit of engaging in mass genocide against Iraqis.

Think Jesse MacBeth and Micah Wright, anti-war Army Rangers who weren’t Army Rangers.
Think Amorita Randall, the NYTimes-championed former naval construction worker who told the Times magazine that she served in Iraq, was in a Humvee that blew up, and was raped twice while serving in the Navy–but, in fact, had never served in Iraq.

Instead of confronting the problem, MoveOn.org/MediaMatters Democrats are preparing to shoot the messenger.

All of you get a grip. Lets get motivated about FACTS not made up, twisted lies. We have alot more serious issues to focus on, then in what context an UNELECTED media personality made a comment.

To listen to what was actually said (and not what Democrats say he said) and there is only one intelligent conclusion. Rush is right and the Liberals are using a few select "phony soldiers" to gain political support for their party.

John Murtha is an embarrassment to the Marine Corps. Don't forget, he called the Marines at Haditha mass murderers months before they were even given a trial. By the way, the legal cases against them are falling apart one by one.

Salute from far away... geographically and mentally, AKA "Spain".

First I want to congratulate Alex for doing it back from war with your body, mind and soul reasonably in good shape.

I've spent about a week reading the entries in this blog, and for the first time I've felt that american citizens are being exposed to *real* war. Your posts ring a bell in my mind, as are like endless war accounts by endless soldiers in endless wars -the sort of stuff that we love to think, "duh, that's why European -cough- got fed up -cough- about war -cough-"

I am amazed at the amount of passion (sometimes not really positive passion) this issue has raised. I mean, Rush Limbaugh is a profesisonal. His job is saying tigns and each now and then they will blow back. That's the size of it, being an asshole and speaking your mouth comes in with some retribution each now and then.

Why it's so hard to take it? Rush limbaugh spoiled it big time; missed a hell of a chance to shut the fuck up. And has got what we deserved.

Here you have this sodleir, Alex, who si so much younger than many of us and yet has lived so much fo the sort fo stuff any reasonable person would flee if it showed turning aroudn the corner. He has served his country and has learned at the usual fare that war is ugly, not as an abstraction, but as ugly as a ugly reality can get ugly. That's why every reasonable sensible eprson avoids it. That's why it takes very committed (or severely mislead, being cynical)people to willingly go and do it.

You may agree or disagree with Alex the young soldier who went to hell and made it bakc reasonably healthy.

But he is in a completely different league than Rush Limbaugh, the showman who speaks too loud too much and each now and then is caught showing he's an asshole.

Get over it. RL spoiled it big. And in terms of moral commitment, of sheer human quality, he will never play in the smae league as Alex and his fellow "phony" soldiers.

Which of course, for the most part, don't feel much like giving Iraq another chance to catch them...

"So, for who, besides Jesse Macbeth, does the label "phony soldiers" also apply?"

Answer: Micah Ian Wright, Judge Michael O'Brien, Lawrence Hammer, and Gilbert Velasquez just to get started. The problem is so pervasive that Congress has addressed it with the Stolen Valor Act.

Limbaugh is a dirtbag, but don't fall for Media Matters/Harry Reid's attempt to distract us from the fact that congress has not stopped the war and our Democratic Presidential candidates are now saying that they won't stop it if they are elected. Who cares what Limbaugh says anyway? Why don't we focus on holding our Democratic leaders accountable to the promises they make us?

With so many real issues to hit the neocons with it is beyond me why they decided to manufacture this stupid story. Please people, pull your heads out before we hand the neocons yet another election that should be ours.

Anonymous, you cowardly wingnut, I hate to break this to you, but myself and most of the men and women I serve with ARE Democrats who are well aware that when it comes to protecting the lives, benefits, and interests of military families, it's the LIBERALS who have our backs, and NOT the Republicans who are interested in nothing but war profiteering by putting our asses on the line so Halliburton and Blackwater can line their pockets, and Bush and his cronies can wallow in Middle Eastern Oil and the blood of American soldiers and Iraqi civilians.

I do the job I'm told to do, because I am a proud, patriotic, LIBERAL DEMOCRAT (Yeah, you heard me) who has served this country for 16 years, and will continue to do so, even if our Commander in Thief SUCKS IT.

I'll tell you one thing, the Bush admin's foreign policy is a goddman joke, and all you chicken hawks and right wingers are fooling yourselves if you think otherwise. Your rants about the "hippies, commies, Liberals" etc, make you look like paranoid buffoons who are still stuck in the 60's -meaning the decade AND your IQ.

Sorry, you toothless mouthbreathers, it's the DEMOCRATS who really care about America - all the Repubs care about is spreading hate, and raking in the profits at the expense of others. Corrupt, greedy, and as unpatriotic as the day is long, that's the Republican platform for you.

If you've never served (Rush, Bush, most of the Republicans in congress) then keep your mouth shut about war, because you don't know shit about it. You've never been where I am now. If you HAVE served and you are one of the small percentage who is still buying into the brainwashing, and you support the RepubliCON agenda, then wake up and smell the overpriced oil. They don't care about us. Why do they keep cutting VA benefits, while the Liberals fight to protect them? Smarten up - the Republicans are NOT your friends.

My heroes? John Kerry. Wes Clark. John Murtha. Max Cleland. Men who wore the uniform and continue to tell the truth about the Bush administration's bald-faced lies, and the phony circumstances which brought us into Iraq in the first place.

Army of Dude - keep speaking the truth. And don't let these idiot brainwashed rednecks get you down. They aren't worth it. They're cowards.

"Army of Dude" If you're going to whine, bitch, cry and mislead, mistate the facts, then why don't you just shoot yourself in the foot and come home. I'm sure there's a place for you in some treasonous Democrat's campaign. Your either a dupe for some liberal org. or too stupid to read or listen. By the way, I never served (no war, no draft). However, I pay your salary and you made your choice. Shut up and fight.

Hm. You're obviously an idiot because if you had read the Dude's diary entries, you know he's home from his tour-- so no shooting self in foot required.

As my father refers to people without a brain, you are a 'zero'.

The world's smartest liberal Danny boy sez "Sorry, you toothless mouthbreathers, it's the DEMOCRATS who really care about America - all the Repubs care about is spreading hate, and raking in the profits at the expense of others."

They've got you brainwashed (an easy job, given your small cranial capacity). The only thing the Dhimmicrats care about are the trial lawyers, teacher's unions, government employees unions, and pro-abortion types who funnel gigantic amounts of cash to them. If you think they care about YOU or ME, you're jerking yourself off. But in your case, that's a good thing, because every girl you don't impregnate, Danny boy, is an abortion avoided. Go smoke another bowl, loser.

Rush Limbo is a real American Hero. He is the hardest fighting desk jockey who never enlisted in the military. His anal warts and drug addiction give him a full-time battle. His great courage in covering for Republican closet homosexuals and other drug addicts are an inspiration to all Americans. He is talent on loan from God, after all.

My name is Alex, i served three tours and due to the insignificant blast of one lucky *^&%$# I broke my phony neck and very traumatic Phony Brain Injury. I forgot my Phony Daughters Name. I am full of hate for what he said but I do truly treasure my Borthers and now you as a brother for staying over in the imaginary phony place we call Hell of Iraq. Excellent Posting here if I could I would be back over there jsut so RUSH could keep talking out his four point.

Anonymous said...

My husband called me away from my show to read this blog and his posting. Love the response! Don't know exactly what Rush said, but it sounds like I don't want to know. But there is something I have to respond to as there is no question as to what was said. Jeremy Garland: you think this photos are faked? When was the last time you stepped your free and fearful foot in Iraq???? When was the last time you witnessed a four month old baby covered in blood after being butchered because her parents support our troops???? My guess is NEVER! So the closest you've come to a Middle East war must be watching "Courage Under Fire" and calling it a farce. Think twice before you call someone a liar particularily when you've never had the cojones to step in their combat boots. People like you make this war not worthwhile. For those of you that recognize our heroes for what they are, the scars my husband bears are worth it. Thank you for your continued service and support. Oh and by the way Jeremy and Rush, I hear Baghdad has some prime real estate locations opening up. Need help packing???

Hi Dude,

I just want to thank you for being really honest about your thoughts on all of this. Looking through the comments at the venom spewed by some of the "comments" I am disgusted at how far some people are willing to go to diss a soldier like yourself and stand up for someone like Rush who doesn't fool most of us with his back stepping. Thanks for serving your country. You are a gem.

Pragmatic American said...

From one "Phony" to another:

I did Grenada, back in the day. Not fun, but quick. You were told you were going, you went, as simple as that, yes? You do your job.

A few years ago, at 40% service-connected disabled, I did try to re-up (there is a way to do so, and have the ratings waived). But, too disabled, sorry. Damnit.

The point being is, I already served and was ready to step up to the plate again. People like Limbaugh always seem to have some reason why it wasn't possible.

It's oh so easy to make commentary, safe and sound from your home or broadcast studio, isn't it? Especially when you too could have stepped up and done the dirty work, but found some facile reason why it wasn't possible.

I run into these types daily. The wannabes. The pundits. The speechmakers. Worthless shits, the lot of them.

Limbaugh is an entertainer, and nothing more. He had his chance and failed the test. So much for his bona fides.

Hooah, Brother! Thanks for stepping up and doing the dirty work this go-around. You make us old Vets proud.

Maybe someday you too can say the same sort of things to yet another generation, in the next conflict, when yet another blowhard makes another jackass comment and then tries to cover his ass when it blows up in his face.

Meanwhile, we know the truth of things, and lose no sleep because of the foolish things talking heads say on the radio.

CAPTAIN KOPEIKIN

My name is Captain Kopekein, I will not go away,
I´ve served in many armies but it is Iraq today--
Civilians have me in their sights and have me in their pay,
But when it comes to benefits,
Then it´s--
"What´s that you say?"

"Cannon" destroyed my ears and scrambled all the brains inside,
But politicians label me a nation´s foremost pride;
Alas the springs of sympathy have all gone up and dried,
For when it comes to benefits
Then it´s
"Good lad, abide."

"Soldier abide" they tell me but I´ve been abiding long,
Can´t get no work; but I am broke that once was manly strong,
Yet though parades call up my name when there´s a motley throng,
When it comes to my benefits
Then it´s
"Is something wrong?"

It´s hard to hobble half a man but I am growing old,
Perhaps I have sweet children to be sheltered from the cold,
And though they might be gratified their father "was so bold"
When it comes down to benefits
Then it´s
Patience to hold.

You sent me to Fallujah when I couldn´t find no job
At home--it´s robbing Peter whereby Paul so as to rob,
But even in Iraq a-firing shots into the mob
Has brought me meager benefits,
When it´s--
Corn on the cob.

God bless you--all so civilized--as I tried to uphold
Your words of truth and beauty; thought your words were good as gold,
In which I was mistaken--that am no more thought-controlled,
For now I know the benefits
Of it´s
Less than extolled.

As Captain Kopeikin I cannot die or go away,
But rest upon your conscience, even while the children play,
For my wounds grieve me less than must your own auto-da-fe,
For when it comes to benefits
Then it´s
Your hell to pay.

THE DISILLUSIONED
Remember, Mommy,
I´m off to get Sadaami,
So send me a salami...
--Tom Lehrer (emended)

They said that I was fighting for my country and I was,
But now I merely feel like such a fool:
My countrymen did not support my mission or my cause,
And I was just unwittingly a tool.

Those we supposed we went to help despised us even more,
Yet scores of cruelties couldn´t make them like us,
And we returned the feeling--move me over by the door,
I like "the kind old sun" and blooming ficus.

Read me "Futility" that I might drink the bitter dregs,
I hear the words and feel the sunlight´s warm,
Now my remorse runs like a millipede on all its legs,
But I asked God to keep me safe from harm.

The Government has put me in a slum with all the rest,
A seedy place where no one gives a damn--
So different from the words with which a youth was wooed, caressed,
Which is the reason I´m in such a jam.

Prior to my enlistment all the world was in my hands,
My faith in God and Government intact,
But now I see it merely was the worst of brigand bands
Which sought my services, and that´s the fact.

No, let me rest a while. The kind old sun will ease my pain,
While propaganda tells me I am happy,
Yet it was all a vanity for which my troop was slain,
Myself condemned to this discomfort crappy.

Remorse runs like a centipede but I no more can run,
And bleeding hearts may like to bleed but tell me what they´ve done,
Yet I, that served them in their greed and sacrificed my fun,
What have I left, but life low-keyed, and pain beneath the sun?

You all must be eating crow by now-- now that the truth is out or is your foot still in your mouth. That's what you get for believing the mainstream media. Don't believe anything that they say --- including the fact that we are losing in Iraq! Invesitgate, analyze and think for yourself.

Anonymous said...

I have listened to the replays of Rush Limbaugh's comments regarding "phony soldiers". He obviously was insulting every marine/soldier/sailor/airman who did not agree with his view of the Iraq war. As a veteran, I know how difficult it is to speak out while in uniform. As an officer, I also knew that it was my duty to disagree and not comply with an illegal order. The troops who speak out are courageous, not phony.

Drug addict Rush Limbaugh avoided military service for dubious reasons. He had anal warts or a boil on his butt, or some disgusting medical condition with his ass. He later lied and said that "an old football injury" kept him from serving. Viagra Limbaugh has no idea what it takes to wear the uniform and to serve this great country.

OxyContin Limbaugh needs to apologize to all troops and all Americans for his anti-American statements.

Hey FastMovingCloud,

It wasn't Rush Limbaugh who gave the "BS" explanation. It was people who decided to actually hear what the guy said. In the very NEXT sentence Rush was speaking about Jesse Macbeth, who was recently sentenced to jail.

You are quite wrong! You see you bought the BS "transcript" that Rush posted. He didn't mention Macbeth until almost TWO MINUTES after the phony soldierS comment. NOT THE NEXT SENTENCE.

Hello Army Dude,

Thank you so much for your post. I am active duty USAF and was stationed at an Army hospital for the last three years. The 'phoney soldiers' references made by people whose fat asses have never served sicken me as well. Know that your post has certainly educated those not even aware of Rush Limbaugh's propaganda. I am certain you have influenced minds for the better. Thank you.

Try again. Rush said "yeah, phony soldiers." The caller spoke for a few sentences, then Rush continued, leading into the Macbeth analogy.

At the risk of offending some of the folks that call themselves "ditto-heads", I find it difficult to believe the mindless excuses they offer up to defend this joke (Rush Limbaugh). If you passed third grade English, you can easily infer from the transcripts and audio clip (the ones not edited by Rush that is), that he is referring to all of us that are serving, and have served our great nation. I would love to sit in front of this junkie, draft dodging bastard and have him spew his daily vomit in my direction...he would not worm his way out of it so easily...I assure you. Redmark2007

Well, as this thread is still going, I'll point this out:

Rushbo called someone else a phony soldier in that very same show. In fact, it was the caller just before pro-war Mike.

It was another Mike, who was a Republican who thought the troops should be brought home. In fact, he said: "See, I -- I've used to be military, OK? And I am a Republican."

Rushbo's response? "And I, by the way, used to walk on the moon!"

Emphasis mine.

The very next phone call was of course from pro war Mike, who wanted to "retort" to bring- the troops- home Mike.

And Rushbo was happy to help.

Anonymous said...

rush didn't call all soldiers that don't support the war phonies. he was referring to one particular individual who pretended to have served in iraq, but in actuality was dishonorably discharged from the army after less than a year's time. he never went to iraq, but found it necessary to join cindy sheehan in her anti-war crusade, and became the poster child of that organization for a short time. he is the only individual rush was referring to as a phony soldier. i do not intend this to criticize you, AH. you have been to iraq, and i have not, so you are much more qualified to comment on it. even if we don't agree, you have paid your dues to society, and you have earned your right to say whatever you want. i just wanted to clarify the phony soldier thing.

The phony soldier is right. I served in Iraq in OIF2. We were trying to end the war so there would be peace. A "real soldier" detests war probably more that anyone else because he/she knows what it really is. When I hear people talk of how much we love our jobs and want to be in conflict I just shake my head. New guys are always green and a little gung ho but hey come around. Some of the coolest heads I saw under fire were the female soldiers. Bush and Cheney are "real phonies" and sadly, so is Rush L. This may help understanding what a real soldier is; we're like the old time doctors, we work as hard as we can because we're trying to put ourselves out of a job. In the doc's case it's disease he hates, in the soldier's case, it war.
