An Iraq movie that might not suck

The Hurt Locker is an upcoming movie about EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) in Iraq. From IMDB:

An intense portrayal of elite soldiers who have one of the most dangerous jobs in the world: disarming bombs in the heat of combat. When a new sergeant, James, takes over a highly trained bomb disposal team amidst violent conflict, he surprises his two subordinates, Sanborn and Eldridge, by recklessly plunging them into a deadly game of urban combat.

Check out the trailer. Sure to raise some goosebumps.

That'll have 'em lining up at the recruiting station. "EOD! Those dudes, rock, man!"

Do they really wear those suits, and just how effective are they in slowing down a supersonic pressure wave?

Dad

They do wear those suits, and I'm guessing they're not that effective.

Dude. Just saw it yesterday and it sucked. Highly disappointing especially considering how friggin' awesome EOD is.

as much as I hate these new Iraq movies, I'll probably end up watching this one. What ever happened to shooting at trash piles?

Jacob,

The coolest controlled det I heard was an Apache firing its 30MM at a VBIED. We were too close to watch it, but the shockwave knocked me over. A piece of shrapnel even landed in the courtyard.

god, that is sweet. oh how I miss those blessed apaches. the coolest one we had was when we found a dog with what we thought was det cord coming out of it's mouth...not much but fur and dust after that one haha. let us know how that movie turns out!

It'll be a couple weeks before it reaches my area, so it'll be awhile. But I'll definitely say something about it.

I saw The Hurt Locker, and was left with the same opinion I have of most military movies. Didn't they talk to somebody....anybody who served in Iraq or with EOD. The thought of this three man team of hotdogs cruising around whatever city, Iraq without an escort....rolling up to a PIED and preparing to interrogate it, all with the landowner providing a perimeter.....

Ugh.

Oops...meant to say 'without' a perimeter.

That's what I get for being in a hurry.

The "Military Consultant" that they used was a retired Sergeant Major that drove around in Iraq and was 100 meters from an IED when it went off pissing his pants.
He had no experience with the real world.
The movie is good for people who don't know about EOD, but it pisses off real EOD very much.
The producers should get their money back!!!!

I served for a year in an EOD Detachment at Ft. Sill, but as a clerk-typist. More fun than I've ever had and I learned a lot. Served me well when I rotated to RVN as a clerk and demonstrated what I learned at Sill. Became an instant Intelligence Analyst at 2Corps HQ and flying a desk probably kept my young ass intact.
I will watch the movie.
Hope Pappy Lauthner and Jimmy Dukes and CPT Talmadge are still around to watch it.

My post above. Somewhat disappointed at the technical aspects but a fair movie. The EOD types I knew were technicans, not the alpha male studs who beat each other's drunk butts up regularly; they were highly trained technicans who spent more time training in disarming stuff than running around picking off bad guys at 1000m with a FRIGGIN BARRATT. And they were sure not madmen.
